New Year - New Theme

Each year, FCA establishes a theme to focus the ministry planning for the new year. This theme is incorporated into our strategic planning, resource assets, and merchandise designs. This year's theme --" PROVEN" -- was launched on January 7, 2026.

Theme Verse:

“My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be my disciples.”

John 15:8

Overview

We’re all trying to prove something: our spot on the team; being captain material; being accepted by our peers; earning success and accolades; even love. We put time and energy into doing all we can to fit into these spaces, and it leaves us exhausted and unfulfilled. But we don’t have to keep striving to prove our worth; God has proven everything for us through His Son Jesus Christ. We simply receive what has already been done for us. We are proven in Him. You don’t need to prove anything; Jesus has proven it all.

Key Concepts

Within the overarching Proven narrative, we have four concepts that bring out the discipleship journey. Each concept concentrates on a smaller theme within the big picture and walks us through how to engage in these areas.

CONNECT

"Remain in me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without me."

John 15:4-5

CULTIVATE

"My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, I have also loved you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commands you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete."

Interns Kick-Off 2026

We launch our first team of six (6) FCA Interns in the CA North State this month, leading them in a discipleship-training program, assigning them to serve in support of local campus huddles, and participating in the execution of various special events. These Simpson University students return from their Winter Break, January 12th and kick off our first weekly meeting that Tuesday. We then hit the ground running with a weekend retreat January 16-18 for team-building and training. Interns will be active and involved in supporting local school huddles shortly thereafter.

Field Ambassador Norm Slosted and wife Mary are excited to be working with these amazing college students. While they are not paid staff, we can provide honorariums for their contribution through the generous donations of supporters.

Signs of Revival On Campuses

Enterprise High School Huddle Advisors Brian Gaddy and Jamie Leedy are reporting great attendance and a move of God in their huddle meetings this school year. Towards the end of Fall Semester, Mr. Leedy gave testimony, ". . . one of our student leaders shared the Gospel [during a weekly huddle] and twenty-four students made a decision to accept Jesus." He went on to share, "Truly our Lord is at work on Enterprise campus!!!!"

We have heard similar testimonies from other campuses in the North State, including but not limited to Anderson HS, Red Bluff HS, and Simpson and CSU Chico Universities. FCA Regions from arcross the Country are seeing similar increases in the numbers of students responding to the invitation to follow Christ. We are grateful for God's faithfulness to move in our midst.

Continue to pray for our FCA staff, volunteers, and student-leaders serving and ministering on the frontlines to advance the Kingdom of God.

A Harvest at Simpson

Simpson University has grown its enrollment over the last several years through an investment in athletics and the introduction of new sports. This is exemplified in the addition of Junior Varsity Team offerings and new sports such as Bass Fishing and Women's Wrestling, Cheer, Dance, Flag Football, and Men's Volleyball.

This strategy is based on the belief that college student engagement in affinity groups creates a greater sense of belonging and identification with the institution, resulting in broader recruitment and increased retention. As a result of this enrollment strategy, student-athletes represent over 75% of the Simpson student body.

This has provided an incredible opportunity for FCA to flourish on campus. Huddle Advisor and Track & Field Coach Jonathan Hall is shown below sharing an inspiring message to a broad mix of student-athletes following a customary icebreaker of "Rock-Paper-Scissors".

Simpson has seen a number of student-athletes coming to faith in Jesus Christ this year, and celebrated numerous baptisms as well. We enjoy partnering with Simpson wherever possible and appreciate the Christ-infused education they provide here in the CA North State.

Huddle Launches A New Semester Soon

Night of Champions (NOC) has become a signature FCA event in the CA North State. The 4th Annual NOC will be presented and hosted this year by Simpson University in partnership with FCA as the event's "Title Sponsor". This event reaches out to area huddles, high schools, and church youth groups. We are excited to be supporting NOC and encouraging all FCA Huddles to come with their neighbors, classmates, and teammates "in tow".

Keep eyes out for additional details and pray for a move of God on all those in attendance.

Intern Program Launched

The Internship experience is designed to develop student-athletes in discerning their calling and career while introducing them to various aspects of sports ministry through FCA campus huddles, camps, and special events. FCA is launching the first college Internship Program in Northern CA on the campus of Simpson University. We have four strong candidates in the on-boarding process, eager to participate this Spring Semester.

Shasta County Fields of Faith

ields of Faith (FOF) is an event organized by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes where students across the country gather at athletic fields or gyms to share their faith, hear testimonies, worship, and challenge peers to read the Bible and follow Jesus Christ. It is a student-to-student event designed to spark a spiritual movement and change the culture in communities.

The Shasta County FCA Student-Leaders, Advisors, and local pastors organized this year's FOF event that was held last month at the UPrep HS stadium. Student speakers and guest speaker Coach Jerry Vallotton shared their testimonies and a call to action for attendees to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

Compassion & Spiritual Warfare

Modoc Middle School (shown above) and Modoc High School both sponsored Food Drives to support food distribution to local families. FCA Advisors Cindy and Lynn Culp have been doing a fantastic job supporting these new huddles in the City of Alturas. The noticeable presence of FCA on campus has drawn attention and challenges.

"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places,"

The presence of FCA on the Modoc Middle School campus was recently challenged by a parent who objected to her son having "religious" messages left on his locker. The Huddle had created inspirational cut-out leaves with words of encouragement and "Jesus Loves You".

While committing to refrain from posting on students' assigned lockers in the future without their permission, the student club retains "equal access" to freedom of speech and assembly during non-instructional periods, afforded to them by the US Constitution .

There is often confusion and a misinterpretation of the concept of "Separation of Church and State". The Student Rights Handbook , published by the Alliance Defending Freedom, is a great guide for individuals wanting to understand the rights of students on K-12 and University campuses.

Coach & Spouse Date Night

Eighteen couples joined the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for its first "Coach & Spouse Date Night". This free dinner event featured guest speakers Jerry and Ann Vallotton, who shared insights on navigating the marital challenges often facing a coach's marriage. Risen King Church Pastors Cole and Caitlin Zick also shared biblically-based strategies for strong marriages.

The event was held on the campus of Simpson University, and provided coaches and their spouses a great opportunity to fellowship together over a meal and return home with action items for enriching their marriages.

CSUC Golf Team Bible Study

The CSU-Chico FCA recently started a Bible study with the men's golf team. The FCA Huddle has reached a number of the collegiate golfers this year. Several of them have regularly attended Huddle meetings.

Two of the FCA student-athletes initiated the Bible study. Huddle Advisor Brendan Allen shared reports of good conversation and a genuine interest in spiritual things. The Gospel continues to be shared. Pray for a move of God on the CSU campus.

Power of the Testimony

One of the most effective means of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ is by sharing one's personal "testimony". FCA frequently invites coaches and athletes to share their personal testimony as a means of demonstrating the Father's nature and purpose for His children.

Recently, Simpson University baseball player Bryce Young shared his personal testimony and lesson on the life of King David. He did a great job ministering to his peers at the huddle meeting (below).

Move of God at Simpson University

Earlier this Summer, Simpson University President Norm Hall reached out to FCA Field Ambassador Norm Slosted and ordered FCA Sports Bibles for every student athlete and coach. Five hundred and seventy-six (576) Bibles arrived on campus and were first gifted to the early-arrival, Fall sports athletes.

Athletic Director Rob Harley shared how the Bibles were used during small-group breakouts. "To me", commented Director Harley, "one of the best parts of the groups were that they were student-led, many of whom were student-athletes." He expressed a raised level of expectation that God is moving amongst student-athletes.

Director Harley's expectations were later further evidenced when sixteen (16) student-athletes chose to be baptized the evening before the start of New Student Orientation. Plans were made for four (4) students to be baptized, but twelve (12) additional athletes decided on the spot to also make a public declaration of their faith in Jesus Christ.

In week one of the semester, Student Leaders launched the first weekly FCA Huddle Meeting in the Student Union to over ninety (90) students. The "rock-paper scissors" ice-breaker generated incredible energy and excitement. Huddle Advisor, Cross-Country, and Track & Field Head Coach Jonathan Hall gave an introduction to FCA's Vision and Mission and shared brief thoughts from God's Word. The evening closed in breakout groups praying together for the new school year.

FCA is so grateful that Simpson University has stood firm in their commitment to providing a Christ-infused higher education experience for students and their families. In response to their steadfast commitment, the leadership is seeing God faithfully move on campus, and FCA is privileged to bless and come alongside what God is doing.

Area Director Candidate Heads to Bootcamp

The FCA staff application and onboarding process is extensive, increasing the confidence FCA is a good fit and the candidate is "called" by God to ministry. We are excited to announce the candidacy of Jared Gallardo for the position of Area Director to the CA North State Central Counties of Shasta, Tehama, and Trinity.The last step before an offer of employment is extended and the prospective staff can begin raising support is "Bootcamp". Jared will be heading to the FCA Support Center in Kansas City this September for a three day bootcamp orientation and training.

Jared and his wife Rianna are graduates of Simpson University. They have served in a variety of ministry capacities to youth and overseas missions. Jared has coached several youth sports, and shares FCA's vision for empowering coaches and athletes to have a Kingdom impact in their respective communities.

We will provide a more extensive introduction after Jared returns from Bootcamp. Join us in praying for Jared and Rianna as they respond to God's call to FCA.

Anderson Middle School to Launch FCA Campus Huddle

Norm Slosted met with PE Teacher & Track Coach Dan West earlier this summer to discuss how Anderson Middle School could launch an FCA Huddle on campus. Coach West has identified student-leaders to initiate chartering the club on campus. He is looking forward to supporting these young student-athletes as they grow in their faith and leadership on campus.

Middle School ministries reach students at a crucial stage of development and serve as great "feeder" ministries as students transition into high school huddles. We are excited to have Anderson MS and Coach West serving in the CA North State.

Redhawks Flock Together on Move-In Day

Field Ambassador Norm Slosted connected with a few FCA friends, both old and new, at the Simpson University New Student Move-In Day . Athletic Director Rob Harley (Lt) has been leading the department since Spring of 2023 and has been a great partner with FCA. Brandon Hall (Rt-Middle) served two years as the FCA Huddle President before graduating. He now serves as the Missions Coordinator. Brandon's Cousin Jonathan Hall (Far Rt) is the FCA Simpson Huddle Advisor and Head Cross-Country and Track & Field Coach. FCA enjoys partnering with these incredible people.

New student-athlete Michael Wood (Bottom) hails from Walnut Creek and is a member of the Simpson Men's Basketball Team. He is also a vocalist on the Simpson Chapel Worship Band and plans to join in with FCA on campus. We look forward to seeing who God will raise up as spiritual leaders from amongst the incoming class.

FCA Hosts Baccalaureate

Baccalaureate (n): A religious service held at some educational institutions before commencement , containing a farewell sermon to the graduation class.

The Modoc HS FCA Huddle hosted a baccalaureate service for all graduating seniors. Faith Bible Pastor Lynn Culp and Vineyard Pastor Niki Wolter--both FCA Huddle Advisors--baptized three FCA seniors during the service.

The rural town high school in Alturas may have a small enrollment, but God is doing BIG things through the ministry of FCA. SO GOOOOOOOOOD!

WVHS Parties with Chick-fil-A

FCA and Chick-fil-A sponsored a party at West Valley HS as their reward for having the most students at Night of Champions . Joel Vengley, father of an FCA student-leader, shared a message on glorifying God through athletic competition. The WVHS FCA Huddle regularly hosts 45-50 students at their weekly meetings under the support and guidance of Huddle Advisors Erin Sprague and Chris Fitch.

Orland Kickball Challenge

The Orland HS FCA Huddle hosted a lunchtime Kickball Challenge between students and teachers. While the competitive spirit was aroused, everyone enjoyed the brief escape from the classroom.

Huddle Advisors Cory Goga and Jessica Johnson showed their athleticism both on offense and defense.

Norm Slosted closed the competition with a challenge to steward our thoughts biblically--taking every thought captive to the mind of Christ (2 Cor. 10:5.)

Huddles Doubly Good in Chico

FCA has two huddles active in the City of Chico--Chico HS and Cal State University.

Norm Slosted recently spoke to the Chico HS Huddle , supported by volunteer advisors Caleb Fleming and Keith Rollins. The huddle has been active for a couple years. One of the students shared his challenging experiences as a Christian on campus. Pray for students trying to make a stand for Jesus on campus.

The CSU Chico Huddle is advised by Brendan and Sarah Allen. Five of the FCA students are participating in a leadership program this summer. We are praying that God uses this opportunity to help these students grow deeper in their relationship with Him. The CSUC FCA Huddle is discipling disciples who make disiciples.

Red Bluff Rotary

FCA frequently has the opportunity to introduce the ministry of FCA to churches and community service organizations in the CA North State. Field Ambassador, Norm Slosted, recently spoke at a Red Bluff Rotary Luncheon with approximately forty-five community members and professionals in attendance.

Not wanting to leave them with a ministry "info-mercial" alone, Slosted shared the inspirational story of British Olympic and professional cycling coach David Brailsford.

Brailsford transformed the British cycling programs to a dominating force after an abysmal history of finishes in both Olympic and Tour de France competitions. He adopted the applied theory of "Aggregation of Marginal Gains", focused on small incremental improvements that lead to significant improvement when added together.

"Do not despise small beginnings. God is pleased to see the work begin" (Zech 4:10.)

"He who is faithful in a very little thing is also faithfull in much" (Lk 16:10.)

"Hanging Loose" in Hawaii

One of the benefits of membership in the "Pacific Southwest Region" (CA, NV, and HI) is when the rotation takes the Director Summit to Hawaii (3/31-4/3). FCA Directors spent four days in training and staff development at the Pu'uhonua Farm Retreat managed by FCA Hawaii State Director Daniel Rich. It is always great to "Hang Loose" and get recharged being together.

Slosted Speaks at Simpson U

Director Norm Slosted spoke to a group of Simpson University students last month about the confidence we can have in knowing God will NEVER leave us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8.)

"To often," Slosted suggested, "we rally the committed duty of believers before establishing the foundational truth of God's covenant commitment to them. It is HIS unconditional and unfailing commitment to us that warrants our confidence and courage."

Simpson is a Christian university located in the center of the CA North State and continues to be a meaningful partner in ministry with FCA.

Fuller Seeing Growth

Peter Fuller serves as the FCA Area Director for the Coastal Counties of Humboldt and Del Norte. Peter is a former college All-American water polo goalie and a business management professional. He is in his second year on staff with FCA and seeing growth as the Lord opens opportunities for him to speak at schools, churches, and men's groups.

He has helped to launch Mult-Sport Huddles on the high school campuses of Fortuna and Del Norte and recruited three initial members of his Leadership Advisory Board. He has entered into discussions with a local church pastor regarding partnering with them in ministering to students attending the College of the Redwoods.

We are so proud and excited for the strides Peter and his board have made in the Coastal Counties of the CA North State.

Night of Champions

Night of Champions (NOC) is the CA North State FCA's signature Spring event sponsored in partnership with Simpson University. The third annual NOC was held this year on Saturday, March 29th.

The event drew high school students from around the North State to an evening of food, fun, and fellowship. Students heard personal testimonies from elite athletes regarding their relationship with Jesus Christ and a challenge to grow in their spiritual walk.

This year's line-up included the Simpson University Chapel Worship Team, USA Women's Discus Thrower Elena Bruckner, former NFL Cincinnati Bengal Brad St. Louis, and former NFL Chicago Bear Steve Connor.

God was faithful to touch the lives of dozens of students who came forward for prayer or to receive Christ for the first time. Check out the highlight video here.

BOY do we appreciate these people at CSU Chico!!! They had seriously so much fun at their FCA Christmas party this year! They celebrated the end of an awesome semester with a potluck, (where everyone brought WAY too much food… who would have thought that athletes aren’t actually a bottomless pit?!?), a hilarious white elephant gift exchange (some gifts are seen in the photo), and the 2nd annual FCA Winter Games! They have the goofiest crowd. Becca decided to give everyone elf names instead of their real names on name tags, hence why FCA Ministry Leader Sarah Allen is named “Dumplin” in the photo-- lololo. Everyone just has so much fun with each other! This semester has been so much fun with them, and leaders Brendan and Sarah Allen are excited to see what God has in store next semester for FCA at CSU Chico!

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) in Northern California, under the leadership of Norm Slosted, plays a vital role in uniting communities across a vast region of 15 counties with a population of nearly 945,000. Spanning 43,000 square miles, this diverse area presents both challenges and opportunities for outreach and engagement.

The FCA focuses on 13 colleges and universities, along with 104 middle and high schools, positioning them as pivotal centers for cultivating leadership and faith-based initiatives. Organized into seven distinct ministry areas, the FCA tailors its approach to meet the unique needs of each community, fostering supportive networks and encouraging student participation. By promoting spiritual growth and community involvement, the FCA seeks to make a meaningful impact in Northern California's educational institutions, creating a nurturing environment for both personal and collective development.

We're back on the Field!

FIELDS OF FAITH RE-LAUNCHED

The annual Fall event “Fields of Faith” (FOF) was re-launched after having been suspended during the COVID pandemic. FOF is a student led worship service encouraging students to pursue a deeper walk with God through the spiritual disciplines of worship, prayer, and reading God’s Word.

The students did a great job sharing personal testimonies, leading worship in song, and praying for a move of God on campuses.

Thank you to the Webb family

We honored the Webb Family as "Tom Landry Teammates" at our last board meeting. Tom Landry was a Hall of Fame NFL coach who was an outspoken Christian and friend of FCA. The honor bearing his name recognizes charitable gifts totaling $10k or more in a given year. Multi-Area Director Norm Slosted (LT) is pictured hear presenting the iconic FCA picture entitled "Influence" to CA North State FCA Board Chair Matt Webb (RT). Thank you Matt and Christi for your generous and committed support for the ministry of FCA.
